Overview

Under the SAARCFINANCE areas of cooperation, the Reserve Bank of India provide technical assistance, on-the-job training and internship to the officials from SAARC central banks with an aim of capacity building in the SAARC region.

Technical Assistance

1. RBI provides Information assistance on the Questionnaire on Data Warehouse implementation to Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan (RMAB) – January 01, 2021
2. RBI provides information assistance to Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) for surveys on Organization and Management as well as Financial Inclusion Structure and Activities– January 02, 2021
3. RBI Conducts SAARCFINANCE Technical Assistance Virtual Workshop - “Data Compilation and Analysis during the COVID-19 Pandemic” – January 18-19, 2021
4. RBI provides Technical assistance to RMAB on issuance of long terms remittance bonds– April 2021

Trainings

RBI Academy conducted its first training programme for SAARCFINANCE members on applied time series econometrics for macroeconomics and finance during January 17 to 21, 2022. Six officers from SAARC central banks i., two each from Bangladesh Bank, Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan and Nepal Rastra Bank participated in the programme.

Capacity building saarcfinance scholarship scheme

SAARCFINANCE Scholarship Scheme

The SAARCFINANCE Scholarship Scheme for higher studies in Economics was introduced in 2013. The scheme was revised in 2020 to incorporate more courses and widen the scope. Reserve Bank of India offers the scholarships with a view to strengthening regional cooperation through skill enhancement in economic research. Under the Scheme, RBI offers four full time scholarships annually to candidates working in SAARC central banks / ministries of finance for pursuing higher studies in India in the field of Economics, Finance, banking and management.

Four officers from SAARC central banks and ministries of finance have been selected under the SAARCFINANCE Scholarship for academic year 2023-24 for pursing higher education courses in recognised Indian universities or institutions.
