Travel Documentation

Valid passports are required for all delegates entering India. Please also note that a visa is required for most nationalities to enter India and it is strongly recommended that participants verify requirements with the embassy/consulate in his/her country.

Please indicate when registering if you require an official invitation letter for visa or administration purposes. The organisers will send you a letter and appropriate documentation to provide with your application when your registration is confirmed.

Visas for participants of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Sudan, foreigners of Pakistani origin and Stateless persons can be issued only after clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Therefore, online applications for visa must be made by such delegates at least 60 days in advance.

Delegates are personally responsible for ensuring that they are in possession of the correct documentation prior to their departure. We cannot assist in procuring passports and visas.

Please ensure that your international traveller’s insurance is valid and that coverage will be available in India for the duration of your stay. We do not accept responsibility for any consequences whatsoever from a delegate failing to ensure that he or she has complied with the necessary health, passport and visa requirements.
 

Getting there

New Delhi and tourist information

New Delhi is the capital of India having a population of 18 million. Delhi is a city that bridges two different worlds – Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi, once the capital of India, is a labyrinth of narrow lanes lined with age old havelis (traditional townhouse or mansion) and formidable mosques. In contrast, the city of New Delhi developed during the British era is composed of spacious, tree-lined avenues and imposing government buildings. Delhi has been the seat of power for several rulers and many empires for about a millennium. In Delhi, you will discover that the city has captivating ancient monuments, fascinating museums and art galleries, architectural wonders, a fora of vivacious performing arts, fabulous eating places and bustling markets.

CLIMATE : November is autumn time in Delhi with pleasant weather with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C.

CURRENCY : The monetary unit of India is the Indian Rupees. All major credit cards are accepted in the city for trade transactions as well as local currency cash withdrawal at the ATM machines. View the latest exchange rates: http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/

ELECTRICAL SUPPLY : The power supply voltage in India is 230/240 V / Frequency: 50 Hz. Power Sockets: Plugs and sockets have either grounded / earthed 3 Pin connections (Type D) or ungrounded 2 pin connections (Type C). The two pin plug is also called the Europlug. It has two round 4 mm (0.157 inch) pins.

HEALTH CARE AND VACCINATIONS : Sufferers of dust or pollen allergies should carry proper medicines when travelling to Delhi. Participants are advised to speak to their health care provider about any vaccination requirements at least 6 weeks before departing for India.

TIME ZONE : India is 5.30 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT + 5.30 hours).

TIPPING : It is not customary to tip in India/Delhi, but locals give tips for exceptional service if they feel the person carrying out the service really deserves it.

TAX : Goods and services tax (GST) has been implemented in India from July 1, 2017. The tax rates varies from zero% to 28% which is added to the price of most goods and services in India. Visitors must pay it on all goods and services that they buy and there is no refund of GST available when you leave the country.
