Exchanging Soiled notes RBI reaches out to Public

The public will now be able to exchange soiled notes of Re.1, Rs.2 and Rs.5 into coins at places where the Reserve Bank of India has offered the facility for distribution of coins.

It may be recalled that in order to mitigate the hardship faced by the members of the public in accessing coins, the Reserve Bank of India has made special arrangements to make available coins to the members of the public in select market locations. Coins of Re.1, Rs.2 and Rs.5 packed in 'potlas' of 100 pieces each, are being issued to the public in exchange as per the following details:

At these places, the public will now also be able to exchange their soiled Re.1, Rs.2 and Rs.5 notes for coins.

The facility will be available on scheduled days except on holidays. Similar facility will be extended to other important market areas in a phased manner.

The facility is in addition to the existing arrangements for exchange of coins at the counters of the Reserve Bank of India, Fort, Mumbai, the various currency chests and the branches of public sector banks.
