New Coins of Rs.5/- in Ferritic Stainless Steel (FSS) to commemorate the event

The Reserve Bank of India will put into circulation New Ferritic Stainless Steel (FSS) coins of Rs.5/- issued by the Government of India to commemorate the event of " The First War of Independence "

Designs :

Obverse : This face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left upper periphery with the word "भारत" in Hindi and on the right upper periphery flanked with the word "INDIA" in English. It shall also bear the denominational value "5" in international numerals below the Lion Capitol flanked on the left lower periphery with the word "रूपये" in Hindi and on the right lower periphery with the word "RUPEES" in English.

Reverse :

This face of the coin shall bear the portrait of General Tatia Tope on the left side, Emperor Bahadhur Shah II on right side and at the centre the Warrior Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi in the battlefield, flanked on the left periphery with the words "प्रतम स्वतंत्रता संग्राम" and "150 ¨वर्ष" in Hindi and on the right periphery with the words – "THE FIRST WAR OF INDEPENDENCE" and "150 YEARS" in English. The period 1857 – 2007 is written at the bottom.

Security Edge :

The edge of the coin shall have security edge on the periphery. At the centre of the edge there shall be shallow groove with a design inside the two sections separated by blank spaces. This design shall consist of chain of beads in relief and each bead being followed by one inclined line in relief. There shall be total 30 lines and 30 beads.

The coin is a legal tender as provided in the Coinage Act, 1906. The existing Five Rupees Coins in circulation shall also continue to be legal tender.
