Shri D. R .. Mehta today took over as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Shri Mehta's term will be upto June 30, 1995. An IAS of 1961 batch, Shri Mehta served the Government of Rajasthan as Secretary (Industries), Secretary to the Chief Minister and Secretary (Mines) between 1976 and 1989. He has also served the Government of India as Secr etary (Department of Banking), Controller of Capital Issues, Secretary of Committee of Financial Policy, Cabinet Secretariat, and Additional Secretary, Department of Banking (Department of Economic Affairs}, Ministry of Finance: Prior to coming to the RBI, Shri Mehta was Chief Controller of Imports & Exports in the Ministry of Commerce. At the RBI, Shri Mehta will look after Department of Banking . Operations & Development, Industrial & Export Credit Department, Urban Banks Department, Rural Planning and Credit Department, Department of Currency Management, Premises Department, Deposit Insurance & Credit 'Guarantee Corporation, and Financial Sector Reform Cell. Shri Mehta will also look after setting up of the proposed Board for Financial Supervision
