Distribution of coins in exchange - RBI reaches out to Public
In order to mitigate the hardships faced by the members of the public in obtaining coins, the Reserve Bank of India has made special arrangements to make available coins upto Rs.800/- packets in 'potlas' of 100 pieces each of Rs.1/-, Rs.2/- and Rs.5/- & coins in exchange at the premises of Lions Club of Marol Service Centre, A.K. Road, Marol, Andheri (East) on 26th November 2002. Members of public desirous of obtaining the coins may avail of the facility at above

Rs.500 denomination notes (AP Series) continue to be legal tender
It has been brought to the notice of the Reserve Bank of India, that some cashiers of commercial and co-operative banks do not accept Rs.500 denomination notes of Ashoka Pillar (AP) Series, i.e., the notes with Ashoka Pillar Watermark. Issue of Rs.10 notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series with capital letter `T' inset in numbering panels
The Reserve Bank of India will shortly be issuing Rs.10 notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series with capital letter `T' inset in numbering panel bearing the signature of Dr. Bimal Jalan, Governor. Except for the change in inset letter, the design of Rs.10 notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to those issued earlier in Mahatma Gandhi Series. All Rs.10 denomination notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series issued by the Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender. P.V. S

No Plan to introduce Polymer/Plastic notes: RBI

RBI to engage Agencies for Distribution of Coins
The Reserve Bank of India has invited applications from agencies for undertaking distribution of coins on an experimental basis. The Reserve Bank, has stated that it will pay service charges to the agencies that undertake distribution of coins. The Reserve Bank will pay a service charge of Rs. 250 per coin bag collected from its counters. With a view to enlarging the facility particularly in the rural and semi-urban area, the Reserve Bank of India has arranged with the postal authorities in Mumbai for distribution of coins through the post offices in Maharashtra and Goa. Rs.500/- denomination notes: Some Facts
The Reserve Bank of India has advised that currently three designs of Rs.500/- notes are in circulation. Rs.500/- notes in predominantly green colour was first issued in 1987.
