RBI/2004/131
DGBA.GAD.No.1008 /42.01.034/2003-04

April 1, 2004

The Chief Executive Officer,
All Agency Banks (as per list enclosed)

Dear Sir,

Introduction of On-line Tax Accounting System (OLTAS)- Branding of Rubber Stamp on copies of Challans

Please refer to our Circular letter DGBA.GAD.No.989/42.01.034/2003-04 dated March 31, 2004 on the captioned subject.

2. In the meeting of the High Powered Committee for On-line Transmission of Tax Payment Data from Banks to Income Tax Department held on March 31, 2004, it has been decided, among others, that during the Pilot, banks should use a rubber stamp acknowledging the payment with Challan Identification Number (CIN) comprising of the following :

(i) BSR Code Number of the bank branch (7 digits)

(ii) Date of presentation of the challan (dd/mm/yy)

(iii) Serial Number of the challan in that branch on that day (5 digits)

3. You are requested to advise your authorised branches collecting CBDT dues to prepare the rubber stamp (6 cm x 7 cm) as specified in the Annexure and brand all the copies of the challans during the Pilot in April and May, 2004.

4. Incidentally, the same stamp will have to be used when the new Accounting Procedure and Single Unified Challan come into operation and OLTAS becomes functional from June 1, 2004.

Yours sincerely,

Sd/-
