Dr. Viral V. Acharya Appointed Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India
The Central Government has, through notification F No. 7/1/2012-BO-I (Pt.) dated December 28, 2016, appointed Dr. Viral V. Acharya, currently C.V. Starr Professor of Economics, Department of Finance, New York University – Stern School of Business, (resume enclosed) as Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India for a term of three years from the date of his taking charge. RBI launches the December 2016 Round of Inflation Expectations Survey of Households
The Reserve Bank of India has been regularly conducting Inflation Expectations Survey of Households. The survey for the December 2016 round is now being launched in 18 cities viz., Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Thiruvananthapuram. Issue of ₹ 5 coins to commemorate the occasion of "University of Mysore Centenary Celebrations”
The Government of India has minted the above mentioned coins which the Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation. The design details of these coins as notified in The Gazette of India-Extraordinary-Part II-Section 3-Sub-section (i)-No.591 dated August 24, 2016 published by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs, are as follows - Obverse - The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend "सत्

RBI opens the Office of the Banking Ombudsman at Dehradun
Considering the significant increase in banking network during the recent past and the vast jurisdiction being covered by the current Office of the Banking Ombudsman, Kanpur, the Reserve Bank of India has set up an Office of the Banking Ombudsman at Reserve Bank of India, Dehradun. The Office of the Banking Ombudsman at Reserve Bank of India, Dehradun will have the jurisdiction over the entire State of Uttarakhand and also the seven districts of Western Uttar Pradesh

Distribution of Banknotes during November 10 to December 19, 2016
Consequent to the announcement of withdrawal of Legal Tender status of banknotes of ₹ 500 and ₹ 1000 denominations from the midnight of November 8, 2016, the Reserve Bank of India made arrangements for supply of adequate quantity of banknotes in various denominations to the public through the banks. Over the period from November 10, 2016 upto December 19, 2016, banks have reported that banknotes worth ₹ 5,92,613 crore have been issued to public either over the counter

RBI Imposes Monetary Penalty on Five Authorised Dealer Banks
The Reserve Bank of India has imposed monetary penalty on the following five banks for violation of Reserve Bank of India’s instructions on reporting requirements of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA).
