RBI to issue, Rs.100 and Rs.50 notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series with capital letter 'R' inset
The Reserve Bank of India will shortly be issuing notes in the denomination of Rs.100 and Rs.50 in the Mahatma Gandhi Series with capital letter 'R' inset in both the numbering panels. The notes will bear the signature of Dr. Bimal Jalan, Governor. Except for this change, the design of Rs. 100 and Rs. 50 notes being issued now is similar in all respects to those issued earlier in Mahatma Gandhi series. Distribution of Coins RBI reaches out to Public
In order to mitigate the hardship faced by the members of the public in accessing coins, the Reserve Bank of India has made special arrangements to make available to the members of the public in select market locations. Coins of Re.1, Rs.2 and Rs.5 packed in 'potlas' of 100 pieces each, will be issued to the public in exchange as per the following details:Place/addressDayTime 1.Lions Club at 2, Mufaddar, Church Road, Saifee Park, Marol, Andheri (East), Mumbai- 400 059

In a unique effort to reach coins to the public, the Reserve Bank of India has made arrangements for providing rupee coins in Andheri (East) through Lions Club of Marol. Coins will be distributed on Wednesday, May 26, 1999 from 10.30 A.M. at the premises of the Lions Club at 2, Mufaddar, Church Road, Saifee Park, Marol, Andheri (East), Mumbai- 400 059. RBI directs all bank branches to accept Rs. 500 notes
The Reserve Bank of India has today issued a circular to all commercial and cooperative banks clarifying that all Rs. 500 notes continue to be legal tender and should, therefore, be accepted for all transactions. The Reserve Bank has also asked banks to instruct all their branches to accept all Rs. 500 notes across their counters and eschew creating avoidable panic in the minds of the public. The Reserve Bank circular has been issued following some confusion about Rs.
