The 614th meeting of the Central Board of Directors of Reserve Bank of India was held today in Thiruvananthapuram under the Chairmanship of Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Governor. The Board assessed the emerging global and domestic economic landscape, including the evolving geopolitical and financial market developments and associated challenges. Further, the Board discussed the Reserve Bank’s activities during the current accounting year 2024-25. The Board also approved the Bank’s budget for the accounting year 2025-26.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated March 18, 2025, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1.20 lakh (Rupees One Lakh Twenty Thousand only) on Sreenivasa Padmavathi Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd., Telangana (the bank) for non-compliance with certain directions issued by RBI on ‘Priority Sector Lending (PSL) - Targets and Classification’ and specific directions issued by RBI on making contribution to Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE) Refinance Fund due to shortfall in achievement of PSL. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers conferred on RBI under the provisions of Section 47A(1)(c) read with Sections 46(4)(i) and 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers conferred on RBI under the provisions of Section 47A(1)(c) read with Sections 46(4)(i) and 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. The bank was directed by RBI through specific direction to deposit a certain amount in the MSE Refinance Fund administered by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) against the shortfall in achievement of PSL target for the Financial Year (FY) 2022-23. The representatives from industry bodies viz., National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation Limited (NUCFDC) and National Federation of Urban Co-operative Banks & Credit Societies Limited (NAFCUB) also participated in the meeting. The meeting was a part of the Reserve Bank's series of engagement with its Regulated Entities.
