This volume, 58th edition of "Statistical Tables Relating to Banks in India", presents comprehensive data of the Scheduled Commercial Banks (including the Regional Rural Banks) and Scheduled Co-operative Banks for the year 2002-03. Starting from this year, the scope of this publication is enhanced by including detailed bank-wise tables on Scheduled Urban Co-operative Banks and Local Area Banks. 2. In addition, 9 more new tables containing information on sector-wise bank credit (tables 5.6 and 5.7), average lending and deposit rates (table 11.5), risk-weighted assets (table 11.6), insured deposits (table 11.7), bank-wise NPAs (table B12), bank-wise employees (table B19), bank-wise stock prices (table B20) and bank-wise and population group-wise number of offices (table B17) are made available in this publication. 3. With a view to improving the readability of this volume, the tables are grouped according to subject areas relating to banks viz. (i) Offices (ii) Business (iii) Liabilities and Assets (iv) Deposits (v) Advances (vi) Priority Sector Advances (Vii) NPAs (viii) Investments (ix) Earning and Expenses (x) Employees and (xi) Miscellaneous. Accordingly table numbers are changed from the previous publication and a cross-reference is given in the appendix for ready reference. 4. An important feature of this publication is the presentation of 35 selected financial ratios of individual banks, based on their annual accounts, in Table B16. Summary position of these ratios for different bank-groups is given in Table 2.8. 5. In all, this volume contains 73 tables, some of which are highlighted above. The appendix at the end gives the cross-reference of new tables vis-à-vis old tables. Besides the tables, this volume contains 12 graphs and 2 Maps wherein some important data on Indian banking sector have been depicted. 6. To facilitate better comprehension of data, a chapter `Explanatory Notes to the Tables' has been included. It is hoped that the volume will be of immense use to the researchers and all concerned in the field of banking, management, economics and statistics. Reserve Bank of India Date : November 24, 2003 |
