Distribution of Coins RBI reaches out to Public
In order to mitigate the hardship faced by the members of the public in accessing coins, the Reserve Bank of India has made special arrangements to make available to the members of the public in select market locations. Coins of Re.1, Rs.2 and Rs.5 packed in 'potlas' of 100 pieces each, will be issued to the public in exchange as per the following details:

The facility will be available on scheduled days except on holidays. Similar facility will be extended to other important market areas in a phased manner.
The facility is in addition to the existing arrangements for exchange of coins at the counters of the Reserve Bank of India, Fort, Mumbai, the various currency chests and the branches of public sector banks.
At present, the Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai, has been providing exchange facility for coins at its counters. The facility is availed by the trading and business establishments through their representative associations/federations. Public service organisations, as also, the members of the public are extended this facility on need based requirements. In addition, the Reserve Bank has also been regularly supplying coins to the 49 currency chests of public sector banks in the City of Greater Mumbai, extending upto Dahisar in the Western suburbs and Mulund in the Central Suburbs. The currency chests are expected to meet the needs of the customers of the banks and the general public, through the network of their branches.
