The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated August 8, 2024, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1,27,20,000/- (Rupees One Crore Twenty Seven Lakh and Twenty Thousand only) on Bank of Maharashtra (the bank) for non-compliance with certain directions issued by RBI on ‘Loan System for Delivery of Bank Credit’, ‘Cyber Security Framework in Banks’ and ‘Know Your Customer’. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI conferred under the provisions of section 47A(1)(c) read with sections 46(4)(i) and 51(1) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated August 08, 2024, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹4.90 lakh (Rupees Four Lakh Ninety Thousand only) on Hinduja Leyland Finance Limited (the company) for non-compliance with certain provisions of the Reserve Bank of India (Know Your Customer (KYC)) Directions, 2016. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers conferred on RBI under the provisions of clause (b) of sub-section (1) of section 58G read with clause (aa) of sub-section (5) of section 58B of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated August 12, 2024, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹10.00 lakh (Rupees Ten Lakh only) on Poonawalla Fincorp Limited, Pune, Maharashtra (the company) for non-compliance with certain provisions of the ‘Non-Banking Financial Company - Systemically Important Non-Deposit taking Company and Deposit taking Company (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2016’ issued by RBI, relating to ‘Fair Practices Code for NBFCs’. The Reserve Bank of India issued Directions under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 to Padmashri Dr. Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Co-operative Bank Limited, Nashik, Maharashtra vide Directive DCBS.CO.BSD-I/D-7/12.22.395/2017-18 dated May 18, 2018, for a period of six months up to November 18, 2018 as modified from time to time, which were last extended up to close of business on August 17, 2024 vide Directive DOR.MON.D-12/12.22.395/2024-25 dated May 15, 2024. In terms of GOI Notification F. No. 4(7) – B (W&M) /2019 dated May 30, 2019 (SGB 2019-20 Series III - Issue date August 14, 2019) on Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme, premature redemption of Gold Bond may be permitted after fifth year from the date of issue of such Gold Bond on the date on which interest is payable. Today, the Reserve Bank released the results of the 2023-24 round of the survey of Foreign Liabilities and Assets of the Mutual Fund (MF) Companies1. The survey covered 45 Indian MF companies (list in Annex) and their Asset Management Companies (AMCs), which held/acquired foreign assets/ liabilities during 2023-24 and/or in the preceding years. The information on face value and market value of units held by non-residents, unit premium reserve, other foreign liabilities and assets of MF companies as at end of the financial year were collected under the survey. The external assets and liabilities of their AMCs were taken from the annual census on foreign liabilities and assets (FLA) of direct investment companies for the reference period. Highlights:

This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers conferred on RBI under the provisions of section 52A of the National Housing Bank Act, 1987.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated August 06, 2024, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1,06,40,000 (Rupees One Crore, Six Lakh and Forty Thousand only) on Union Bank of India (the bank) for non-compliance with certain directions issued by RBI on ‘Creation of a Central Repository of Large Common Exposures-Across Banks’ and ‘Know Your Customer (KYC)’. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI conferred under the provisions of section 47 A (1) (c) read with sections 46 (4) (i) and section 51(1) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
