The edge of the coin shall be security edge on periphery. At the centre of the edge there is a shallow groove with a design inside the two sections separated by blank spaces. This design consists of a chain of beads in relief and each bead being followed by one inclined line in relief. There are a total 30 lines and 30 beads.

The coin is a legal tender as provided in the Coinage Act, 1906. The existing Five Rupees Coins in circulation shall also continue to be legal tender.
