The nineteenth convocation ceremony of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) was held on January 4, 2024 at Mumbai.  Dr. P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister was the Chief Guest, and also delivered the convocation address. Shri Shaktikanta Das, Governor, Reserve Bank of India and President, IGIDR presided over the programme.

The programme commenced with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries followed by invocation by the students.  Dr. Basanta Kumar Pradhan, Director and Vice Chancellor, IGIDR gave the welcome speech, introduced the Chief Guest and mentioned that 23 MSc, 3 PhD and 4 MPhil students would be conferred with degrees. Thereafter, Shri Das conferred degrees to the students. The Chancellor’s gold medal was presented by Dr. Mishra. 

In his convocation address, Dr. Mishra congratulated all the graduates of class of 2023 of IGIDR. He referred to the Prime Minister’s vision of India 2047, by when India would achieve the status of a developed nation, while caring for both its nature and culture.  He stated that India would not only adopt and implement technology, but it shall also be a thought leader in science and technology with women leading India’s development story and it being ‘atmanirbhar’ in all sectors.

Dr. Mishra said that initiatives such as PM Gatishakti and National Logistics Policy are critical elements for optimising the use of resources and enhancing competitiveness. He also emphasised the role of students of economics in advancing the frontiers of knowledge shaping the thought process of policy makers.

The programme ended with the National Anthem.
