All Pension Paying Banks
(As per list)
Dear Sir,
Holding Back of Defence Money by Banks
It has been brought to our notice by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi that DPDO had issued cheques to different banks for the credit of pensioner’s claim in the accounts of pensioners after their death. The amount credited in the bank accounts of pensioners after their death tantamounts to over payment.
2. In this context, we invite your kind attention to para 29, 30, 31 of Defence Pension Booklet "Scheme for Payment of Pensions of Defence Pensioners by Public Sector Banks" and advise you to reiterate the instructions contained therein to your concerned branches and advise them to follow the instructions meticulously so as to avoid over payment from Government Account to stop crediting the Pension to the Defence pensioners’ account especially when they have been informed about the demise of the pensioners.
Yours faithfully,
(R. C. Das)
General Manager
