The Reserve Bank of India has launched the 90th round of the quarterly Industrial Outlook Survey (IOS) of the Indian manufacturing sector for the reference period April-June 2020 (Q1:2020-21). The survey assesses business sentiment for the current quarter and expectations for the ensuing quarter, based on qualitative responses on a set of indicators pertaining to demand conditions, financial conditions, employment conditions and the price situation. The survey provides useful insight into the performance of the manufacturing sector. Owing to uncertainty because of the Covid-19 pandemic, an additional block has been included in this round for assessing the outlook on key parameters for two quarters ahead as well as one year ahead.

A detailed article presenting quarterly results for 2018-19 was published in the February 2020 issue of the Bank’s Bulletin and the results for the last round i.e., for Q4:2019-20 was published on April 03, 2020.

M/s Hansa Research Group Private Limited has been authorised to conduct the survey for April-June, 2020 on behalf of the Bank. While selected manufacturing companies will be approached by this agency, other manufacturing companies, who are not approached, may also participate in this survey by downloading the survey questionnaire from the Bank’s website /en/web/rbi/forms. The survey questionnaire is placed under the head ‘Forms’ (available in the ‘More Links’ at the bottom of the home page) and sub-head ‘Survey’. The duly authenticated filled-in survey questionnaire may be e-mailed as per contact details given in the survey questionnaire.
