Dr. Rakesh Mohan relinquishes office of Deputy Governor

Dr Rakesh Mohan relinquished his office as Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India, as at the close of business on June 10, 2009 to take up an appointment as Distinguished Consulting Professor at the Stanford Centre for International Development at Stanford University.

Dr Mohan served as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank from September 9, 2002 until October 31, 2004, when he was appointed as Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. He returned to the Reserve Bank when he was reappointed as Deputy Governor effective July 2, 2005.

As Deputy Governor, Dr. Mohan was in charge of monetary policy, financial markets, economic research and statistics, Secretary's department and communication. Recently, he chaired/co-chaired three important committees on subjects of national and international importance. These were Committee on Financial Sector Assessment, G-20 Working Group on Enhancing Sound Regulation and Strengthening Transparency and the Committee on the Global Financial System’s (CGFS) Report on Capital Flows and Emerging Market Economies.
