Profile

Belapur Regional Office started functioning from Belapur with effect from January 15, 2001. Before the opening of the office at Belapur, Navi Mumbai, it functioned as an extended arm of Mumbai Regional Office from Byculla Office Building opposite to the Mumbai Central Railway Station. With the shifting of the wholesale markets coming under the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee from Byculla to Vashi and the development of Belapur as a Central Business District, the need for a separate unit of RBI in Belapur was felt. Hence, the functions that were being carried out from Byculla Office, except the estate office and Public Debt Office, were shifted to Belapur.

Currently, Belapur Regional Office caters to the needs of the public through the Issue Department, the Banking Department and the Consumer Education and Protection Cell (CEPC). Belapur Office also houses the Zonal Training Centre for the Western Zone which takes care of the training needs of the base-level staff of RBI.

Jurisdiction

1) For currency management purposes, Belapur office takes care of the needs of the twelve districts of Maharashtra (Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Pune, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg) and two districts of Goa (North Goa and South Goa).

2) CEPC looks after the complaints related to deficiency in services rendered by the entities which are regulated by RBI and fall under the jurisdiction of districts/ areas viz. Kolhapur, Palghar, Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Satara, Sindhudurg, Solapur, Navi Mumbai and Thane districts of Maharashtra State and those which are not covered under the Ombudsman Schemes formulated by RBI. For complaints against banks, the jurisdiction is decided on the basis of location of branch or office of the respective entity; while for centralized operations like Credit Card and complaints against NBFCs, the jurisdiction is decided on the basis of the billing / declared address of the customer. If a complainant has residence in any of the aforementioned districts in Maharashtra and has a complaint of similar nature against any entity regulated by the RBI, she / he may approach CEPC at Belapur Office (through email: cms.cepcbelapur@rbi.org.in OR complaint portal: https://cms.rbi.org.in OR Tel. no.: 022-27578004)
