RBI Imposes Monetary Penalty on Five Authorised Dealer Banks
The Reserve Bank of India has imposed monetary penalty on the following five banks for violation of Reserve Bank of India’s instructions on reporting requirements of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA). Banks should accept Pre-2005 Banknotes in Deposit: RBI clarifies
The Reserve Bank of India has clarified that bank should accept deposits of pre-2005 banknotes in the denominations of ₹ 500 and ₹ 1000 but not reissue these. These notes can be exchanged at the Reserve Bank Offices only. The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue ₹ 50 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005, with inset letter ‘R’ in both the number panels, bearing signature of Dr. Urjit R. Patel, Governor, Reserve Bank of India, and the year of printing '2016' printed on the reverse of the banknote. These banknotes have the ascending size of numerals in the number panels; the banknotes are similar to the banknotes of ₹ 50 issued earlier in Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005

Issue of ₹ 500 banknotes with the inset letter ‘R’
In continuation of issuing of ₹ 500 denomination banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi (new) series which are currently legal tender, a new batch of banknotes with inset letter “R” in both the number panels, bearing the signature of Dr. Urjit R. Patel Governor, Reserve Bank of India, with the year of printing '2016’ are being issued The design of these notes is similar in all respects to the ₹ 500 banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series which was notified through Press Release

RBI issues Directions to Navodaya Urban Cooperative Bank, Nagpur, District Nagpur, Maharashtra
The Reserve Bank of India has issued Directions to Navodaya Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd., Nagpur, District Nagpur, Maharashtra for a period of six months with effect from close of business as on December 15, 2016. According to the Directions, Navodaya Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd., Nagpur shall not, without prior approval in writing from the Reserve Bank of India, grant or renew any loans and advances, make any investment, incur any liability including borrowal of funds

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Deposit Scheme (PMGKDS), 2016
Government of India, in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India, has notified Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Deposit Scheme, 2016. The deposit under this Scheme shall be made by any person who declared undisclosed income under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, 2016. The deposit sum, which shall not be less than twenty-five per cent of the declared undisclosed income, can be deposited at the authorized banks (as notified by Government of India) from December 17, 201
