RBI to issue Banknotes in Denomination of Rs.1000
The Reserve Bank of India will issue with effect from October 9, 2000, banknotes in the denomination of Rs.1000 in the Mahatma Gandhi series bearing the Mahatma Gandhi portrait in the watermark.The notes bear the signature of Dr. Bimal Jalan, Governor of the Reserve Bank. The length of the note is 177 mm and the width is 73 mm. The notes are printed in a combination of offset and intaglio processes.The design, colour scheme and other salient features of these notes ar

RBI caution about reproduction of Currency Notes
It has come to the notice of the Reserve Bank of India that toys with the reproduction of bank notes of Rs.1, 2, 5 and 50 are being sold in the market. The Reserve Bank has cautioned the members of public that reproduction of bank notes and selling/possessing the toys/items looking like bank notes is an offence under the law. Issue of Rs.10 notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series with capital letter "S" inset in numbering panels

Public can exchange soiled notes with any branch of any public sector bank
The Reserve Bank of India has advised that members of public can exchange soiled and mutilated notes with any branch of any public sector banks. It has come to the notice of the Reserve Bank that certain newspapers have published news items with lists of series of Rs.500/- denomination notes purported to have been issued by the Reserve Bank of India with the instruction that notes in these series should not be accepted. The Reserve Bank has advised in public interest that all Rs.500 notes issued by the Reserve Bank are legal tenders and banks and members of public should continue to accept these notes in their daily transactions or in exchange.
