Today, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the Report on Municipal Finances. The Report with the theme “Own Sources of Revenue Generation in Municipal Corporations: Opportunities and Challenges” presents an analysis of the budgetary data for 232 municipal corporations (MCs), which covers more than 90 per cent of total MCs in the country. It may be recalled that the Reserve Bank had released its maiden Report on Municipal Finances in November 2022 followed by a study on the Finances of Panchayati Raj Institutions in January 2024.
Today, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the Report on Municipal Finances. Accordingly, the next due date of premature redemption of the above tranches shall be November 13, 2024

Consequently, the bank ceases to carry on banking business, with effect from the close of business on November 12, 2024. The Commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Andhra Pradesh has also been requested to issue an order for winding up the bank and appoint a liquidator for the bank.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated November 05, 2024, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹50,000 (Rupees Fifty thousand only) on The Sathamba People's Co-operative Bank Ltd., Aravalli, Gujarat (the bank) for non-compliance with certain directions issued by RBI on ‘Know Your Customer (KYC)’. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI, conferred under the provisions of section 47A(1)(c) read with sections 46(4)(i) and 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

In consultation with the Government of India and SEBI, the Reserve Bank of India has finalised an operational framework for reclassification of Foreign Portfolio Investment made by Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) under Foreign Exchange Management (Non-debt Instruments) Rules, 2019 in case of any breach of the investment limit by the FPIs concerned. This would further enhance the ease of doing business in India.
In consultation with the Government of India and SEBI, the Reserve Bank of India has finalised an operational framework for reclassification of Foreign Portfolio Investment made by Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) under Foreign Exchange Management (Non-debt Instruments) Rules, 2019 in case of any breach of the investment limit by the FPIs concerned. In terms of GOI Notification F.No.4(16)-W&M/2016 dated October 20, 2016 (SGB 2016-17 Series III - Issue date November 17, 2016) on Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme, the Gold Bond shall be repayable on the expiration of eight years from the date of issue of the Gold Bonds. Accordingly, the final redemption date of the above tranche shall be November 16, 2024 (November 17, 2024 being a holiday).

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated November 08, 2024, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹59.20 lakh (Rupees Fifty-Nine Lakh and Twenty Thousand only) on South Indian Bank Limited (the bank) for non-compliance with certain directions issued by RBI on ‘Interest Rate on Deposits’ and ‘Customer Service in Banks’. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers conferred on RBI under the provisions of Section 47 A (1) (c) read with Section 46 (4) (i) of BR Act.
