RBI and 974 branches of Banks to accept Advance Income Tax
As many as 974 computerised branches of public and private sector banks will receive advance income tax in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. These arrangements have been made for the convenience of the income tax assessees. Of the 974 bank branches 898 branches are public sector bank branches, 47 HDFC Bank branches, 9 ICICI Bank branches and 20 AXIS Bank branches. RBI releases Draft Guidelines on Prudential Norms for Off-balance Sheet Exposures of Banks
The Reserve Bank of India today released on its website, draft guidelines on prudential norms for off-balance sheet exposures of banks for comments and feedback. Comments/feedback on the proposals contained in the draft guidelines may be sent within two weeks by email or by fax to 022-22705691 or to the Chief General Manager-in-Charge, Department of Banking Operations & Development, Reserve Bank of India, Central Office Building, 12th Floor, S.B.Singh Marg, Mumbai

RBI approves CBoP - HDFC Bank Merger
The Reserve Bank of India has sanctioned the Scheme of Amalgamation of Centurion Bank of Punjab Ltd. with HDFC Bank Ltd. The Scheme has been sanctioned in exercise of the powers contained in Sub-section (4) of Section 44A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. The Scheme will come into force with effect from May 23, 2008. All the branches of Centurion Bank of Punjab Ltd. will function as branches of HDFC Bank Ltd. with effect from May 23, 2008.
