The Reserve Bank of India, in consultation with the State Governments/Union Territories (UTs), announces that the quantum of total market borrowings by the State Governments/UTs for the quarter April – June 2025, is expected to be ₹2,73,255 Crore. The weekly schedule of auctions to be held during the quarter along with the name of States/UTs who have confirmed participation and tentative amounts indicated by them is as under:
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) celebrated its 90th anniversary today. To recognize this important milestone, an event was organised by the Reserve Bank of India today with the Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu as the Chief Guest. Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Hon’ble Union Minister of Communications, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Shri Eknath Shinde and Shri Ajit Pawar also graced the event.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had announced the withdrawal of ₹2000 denomination banknotes from circulation vide Press Release 2023-2024/257 dated May 19, 2023. The status of withdrawal of ₹2000 banknotes is periodically published by the RBI. The last press release in this regard was published on March 01, 2025.
As announced vide the Press Release 2025-26/4 dated April 01, 2025, the Reserve Bank will be conducting OMO purchase for an aggregate amount of ₹20,000 crore on April 03, 2025.
As announced vide the Press Release 2024-2025/1933 dated January 15, 2025, the Reserve Bank will be conducting daily Variable Rate Repo (VRR) auctions on all working days in Mumbai with reversal taking place on the next working day, until further notice.
On a review of current and evolving liquidity conditions, the Reserve Bank has decided to conduct OMO purchase auctions of Government of India securities for an aggregate amount of ₹80,000 crore in four tranches of ₹20,000 crore each to be held on April 03, 2025, April 08, 2025, April 22, 2025, and April 29, 2025.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated March 26, 2025, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1.00 lakh (Rupees One lakh only) on Kodungallur Town Co-operative Bank Ltd., Kerala (the bank) for non-compliance with certain directions issued by RBI on ‘Management of Advances – UCBs’, ‘Income Recognition, Asset Classification, Provisioning and Other Related Matters - UCBs’ and ‘Interest Rate on Deposits’. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers conferred on RBI under the provisions of Section 47A(1)(c) read with Sections 46(4)(i) and 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated March 26, 2025, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1.00 lakh (Rupees One lakh only) on Karnataka Gramin Bank, Karnataka (the bank) for non-compliance with certain directions issued by RBI on ‘Strengthening of Prudential Norms- Provisioning Asset Classification and Exposure Limit, 2001’ read with ‘Income Recognition, Asset Classification and Provisioning Norms-Guidelines, 1996’. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers conferred on RBI, under the provisions of Section 47A(1)(c) read with Sections 46(4)(i) and 51(1) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated March 26, 2025, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹5.00 lakh (Rupees Five lakh only) on Savery Transport Finance Ltd., Chennai, Tamil Nadu (the company) for non-compliance with certain provisions of the ‘Master Direction- Reserve Bank of India (Non- Banking Financial Company-Scale Based Regulation) Directions, 2023’ issued by RBI. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers conferred on RBI under the provisions of Section 58 G(1)(b) read with Section 58B(5)(aa) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. The correspondence related to charging higher interest rate than the annualised interest rate mentioned in the loan agreement revealed, inter alia, non-compliance with the RBI directions. Based on the same, a notice was issued to the company advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed on it for its failure to comply with the said directions. After considering the company’s reply to the notice and oral submissions made during the personal hearing, RBI found, inter alia that the following charges against the company were sustained, warranting imposition of monetary penalty: The company had:
