New coins of Rs.5/- in Ferritic stainless steel (FSS) to commemorate the occasion of "GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION OF ONGC"
The Reserve Bank of India will put into circulation New Ferritic Stainless Steel (FSS) coins of Rs.5/- issued by the Government of India to commemorate the occasion of "GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION OF ONGC".
Design : Obverse : This face of the coin is divided into three portions with two horizontal lines. The centre portion shall bear the "Lion Capitol" of Ashoka Pillar with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below and right centre portion denominational value "5" in International Numerals. In the upper portion the word "भारत" in Hindi and "INDIA" in English and lower portion the word "रूपये" in Hindi and "RUPEES" in English. Reverse : This face of the coin shall bear the logo of "OIL AND NATURAL GAS CORPORATION" inside the number of "50" in the centre which denotes celebration of "ONGC". On the top of the number "50" is the letters `ongc' and just on the bottom of the number is the year "1956-2006" flanked on the left and right side with some floral design. The words "CELEBRATING INDIA" in English is written on the top of the coin above the logo and letters 'ongc' and the words "उत्सवरत भारत" is written on the bottom side of the coin below the logo and the year '1956 – 2006' Security edge for Five Rupees The edge of the coin shall be security edged on periphery. At the centre of the edge there shall be groove with a design inside the two sections separated by blank spaces. This design shall consist of chain of beads in relief and each bead being followed by one inclined line in relief. There shall be total 30 lines and 30 beads. The coin is a legal tender as provided in the Coinage Act, 1906. The existing Five Rupee Coins in circulation shall also continue to be legal tender. Ajit Prasad Press Release : 2008-2009/420 |
