RBI to issue Non-Sequential Numbered Banknotes in Denomination of ` 500
With a view to enhancing operational efficiency and cost effectiveness in banknote printing at banknote presses, it has been decided to issue, to begin with, fresh banknotes of ` 500 denomination in packets, which may not necessarily all be sequentially numbered. This is consistent with international best practices. Packets of Banknotes in non-sequential number will, as usual, have 100 notes. The Reserve Bank of India has instructed the banks maintaining small coin depots (list annexed) to arrange for exchange of coins of denomination of 25 paise and below for their face value at their branches. RBI's Platinum Jubilee : Currency Notes of last 75 years on display
The Reserve Bank of India which started operations on April 1, 1935 is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee this year. To mark this occasion, the Reserve Bank has arranged an exhibition of all the banknotes issued since its inception. The exhibition is in the Reserve Bank's Monetary Museum and will remain open for public viewing till June 30, 2010. Entry to the exhibition is free. It has been brought to the Bank's notice that members of public, institutions and others continue to write messages etc. on the watermark window and deface the portraits etc. on the banknotes. The Bank wishes to reiterate that such practices work against the Clean Note Policy of the Bank. RBI to issue Rs.20 denomination banknotes with inset letter `E'
The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue Rs.20 denomination banknotes with inset letter `E' in both numbering panels in Mahatma Gandhi Series bearing the signature of Dr. Y.V. Reddy, Governor. Restrictive Practices while accepting Banknotes
The Reserve Bank of India has been receiving complaints from the public regarding adoption of restrictive practices such as, forcing the customers to note down their names on the banknotes, listing the note numbers on the bills submitted for payment insisting on undertaking while depositing higher denomination banknotes, etc., by certain public and private sector organisations/institutions, thus causing avoidable harassment to the public.
