RBI Clarification on phasing out of Banknotes
On enquiries from the press and members of public, the Reserve Bank of India has clarified as follows:As a part of its currency management programme, the Reserve Bank phases out banknotes of old design once banknotes in new design with additional/enhanced security features are introduced. New Ferritic Stainless Steel Coin of Rs.5 - "Mahatma Basaveswara"
The Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation new Ferritic Stainless Steel coins of Rs.5 issued by Government of India to commemorate "Mahatma Basaveswara". Respect Your Banknotes : RBI appeals to Public
The Reserve Bank of India today appealed to members of public not to use banknotes for making garlands, decorating pandals and places of worship or for showering on personalities in social events, etc. Such actions deface the banknotes and shorten their life, the Reserve Bank stated and added that banknotes should be respected as they are a symbol of the Sovereign and public should not misuse them so that the life of banknotes is enhanced. RBI to issue Rs.10 denomination banknotes with inset letter "S"
The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue Rs. 10/- denomination banknotes with inset letter "S" in both numbering panels in Mahatma Gandhi Series bearing the signature of Dr. Y.V. Reddy, Governor. Except for the change in the inset letter, the design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi Series with additional / new security features issued on April 27, 2006.
