The Reserve Bank of India, vide Directive DOS.CO.OCCD/185569/12.28.007/ 2021-22 dated January 28, 2022 issued under section 35A read with section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (AACS), had placed the Indian Mercantile Co-operative Bank Ltd., Lucknow (U.P) under Directions from the close of business on January 28, 2022. The validity of these Directions was extended time-to-time, last being up to January 27, 2024.

The theme of the Conference was ‘Governance in UCBs: Combating Cyber Threats and Enhancing Resilience’. The Conference was also attended by senior RBI officials including Executive Director and other officers of Department of Supervision, Department of Regulation and Regional Directors of RBI. Reserve Bank has previously engaged with the Directors of large UCBs in Mumbai in August 2023.

No. 4(20) –W&M/2017 dated July 06, 2017 (SGB 2017-18, Series II - Issue date July 28, 2017) on Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme, premature redemption of Gold Bond may be permitted after fifth year from the date of issue of such Gold Bond on the date on which interest is payable. Accordingly, the next due date of premature redemption of the above tranche will be January 25, 2024 (January 26, 27 and 28 being holiday, non-working Saturday and Sunday respectively).
In terms of GOI Notifications F. Government of Maharashtra has declared January 22, 2024 as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Accordingly, and in modification of the press release 2023-2024/1710 issued earlier today on “Market Trading Hours on January 22, 2024”, there will be no transactions and settlements in Government securities (primary and secondary), foreign exchange, money markets and Rupee Interest Rate Derivatives on January 22, 2024 (Monday). Settlement of all outstanding transactions will accordingly get postponed to the next working day i.e., January 23, 2024 (Tuesday).
Government of Maharashtra has declared January 22, 2024 as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The Reserve Bank of India issued Directions under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 to The National Co-operative Bank Ltd., Bangalore vide Directive No. BLR.DOS.SSMS.No.S836/09-01-112/2023-2024 dated July 24, 2023, for a period of six months up to close of business on January 24, 2024. The Reserve Bank of India is satisfied that in the public interest, it is necessary to further extend the period of operation of the Directive beyond close of business on January 24, 2024.
The Reserve Bank of India issued Directions under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 to The National Co-operative Bank Ltd., Bangalore vide Directive No. BLR.DOS.SSMS.No.S836/09-01-112/2023-2024 dated July 24, 2023, for a period of six months up to close of business on January 24, 2024. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated December 22, 2023, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹2.00 lakh (Rupees Two lakh only) on The Idar Nagarik Sahakari Bank Limited, Idar, Dist. Sabarkantha, Gujarat (the bank) for non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI on ‘Placement of Deposits with Other Banks by Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks (UCBs)’. This penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers conferred on RBI under section 47A(1)(c) read with sections 46(4)(i) and 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
