RBI denies licence to the Suprabhat Sahakari Bank Ltd., Ahmedabad
The Reserve Bank of India has rejected the licence application of the Suprabhat Sahakari Bank Ltd., Ahmedabad, Gujarat to carry on banking business in India. The bank is precluded from transacting the business of 'banking' as defined in the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (as applicable to Co-operative Societies) and it will not be in order for it, among other things, to accept deposits from the public and allow withdrawals by cheque, draft, order or otherwise.Alpana Kil

RBI withdraws 'in-principle' approval for Bank of Gujarat
The Reserve Bank of India had granted, in January 1994, an 'in-principle' approval for setting up a new banking company under the name of 'Bank of Gujarat Ltd.,' with its headquarters at Ahmedabad. In view of the inordinate delay in setting up of the proposed bank, the Reserve Bank has withdrawn the 'in-principle' approval today.
