The Reserve Bank has launched the 44th round of the quarterly Services and Infrastructure Outlook Survey (SIOS) for the reference period January-March 2025. The survey assesses the business situation for the current quarter (Q4:2024-25) from selected companies in the services and infrastructure sectors in India and their expectations for the ensuing quarter (Q1:2025-26) based on qualitative responses on a set of indicators pertaining to demand conditions, financial conditions, employment conditions and the price situation. The outlook on key parameters for the two subsequent quarters (Q2:2025-26 and Q3:2025-26) are also covered.

The survey aims at capturing subjective assessments on price movements and inflation, based on their individual consumption baskets, across 19 cities, viz., Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Thiruvananthapuram. The survey seeks qualitative responses from households on price changes (general prices as well as prices of specific product groups) in the three months ahead as well as in the one year ahead period and quantitative responses on current, three months ahead and one year ahead inflation rates. The results of this survey provide useful inputs for monetary policy.

Today, the Reserve Bank released its web publication entitled ‘Statistical Tables relating to Banks in India: 2023-24’ covering the activities of the Indian banking sector. The publication presents entity-wise information on major items of liabilities and assets along with their maturity profile; income and expenses; select financial ratios, number of employees and details of priority sector advances for scheduled commercial banks (excluding regional rural banks). In addition, capital to risk weighted asset ratios (CRARs), non-performing assets (NPAs), exposure to sensitive sectors, contingent liabilities and unclaimed deposits are included. State wise distribution of consolidated balance sheet of rural co-operative banks are also presented.

The Report with the theme “Own Sources of Revenue Generation in Municipal Corporations: Opportunities and Challenges” presents an analysis of the budgetary data for 232 municipal corporations (MCs), which covers more than 90 per cent of total MCs in the country. It may be recalled that the Reserve Bank had released its maiden Report on Municipal Finances in November 2022 followed by a study on the Finances of Panchayati Raj Institutions in January 2024.

Today, the Reserve Bank released the provisional results of the 2023-24 round of the annual census on foreign liabilities and assets (FLA) covering cross-border liabilities and assets of the entities {viz., companies, limited liability partnerships (LLPs), alternative investment funds (AIFs) and partnership firms} with inward/outward direct investment (DI). Out of the 41,653 entities which responded in the latest census, 37,407 reported foreign direct investment (FDI) and/or overseas direct investment (ODI) in their balance sheet for March 2024. Of these entities, 29,926 had also reported in the previous census round and 7,481 have newly reported in the current round. Over three-fourths of the companies that reported inward direct investment were subsidiaries of foreign companies (i.e., single foreign investor holding more than 50 per cent of total equity).
