Data on sectoral deployment of bank credit for the month of June 20241 collected from 41 select scheduled commercial banks, accounting for about 95 per cent of the total non-food credit deployed by all scheduled commercial banks, are set out in Statements I and II. On a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, non-food bank credit2 registered a growth of 13.9 per cent in June 20243 as compared with 16.3 per cent a year ago due to unfavourable base effect.

Today, the Reserve Bank released the July 2024 issue of its monthly Bulletin. The Bulletin includes six speeches, five articles, and current statistics. The five articles are: I. State of the Economy; II. Updating Estimates of the Natural Rate of Interest for India with Post-Pandemic Evidence; III. Estimating the Financial Wealth of Indian Households; IV. Measuring the Contribution of Labour Composition in Gross Value Added in India – The Human Capital Approach; and V. Fiscal Performance of Himalayan States/ Union Territories.

The survey assesses the business situation for the current quarter (Q2:2024-25) from selected companies in the services and infrastructure sectors in India and their expectations for the ensuing quarter (Q3:2024-25) based on qualitative responses on a set of indicators pertaining to demand conditions, financial conditions, employment conditions and the price situation. The outlook on key parameters for the two subsequent quarters (Q4:2024-25 and Q1:2025-26) are also covered.

The Reserve Bank of India today placed on its website an update on “Measuring Productivity at the Industry Level-The India KLEMS [Capital (K), Labour (L), Energy (E), Material (M) and Services (S)] Database” comprising the Data Manual 2024 and time-series data on productivity for 27 industries covering the period 1980-81 to 2022-23. The database, which has KLEMS data for an additional year, i.e., 2022-23, is expected to aid the analysis of productivity trends in India at disaggregated industry levels.

The Reserve Bank of India has been regularly conducting Inflation Expectations Survey of Households (IESH). The July 2024 round of the survey is being launched. The survey aims at capturing subjective assessments on price movements and inflation, based on their individual consumption baskets, across 19 cities, viz., Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Thiruvananthapuram. The survey seeks qualitative responses from households on price changes (general prices as well as prices of specific product groups) in the three months ahead as well as in the one year ahead period and quantitative responses on current, three months ahead and one year ahead inflation rates. The results of this survey provide useful inputs for monetary policy.

Highlights: Lending Rates: • The weighted average lending rate (WALR) on fresh rupee loans of SCBs stood at 9.39 per cent in May 2024 (9.55 per cent in April 2024). • The WALR on outstanding rupee loans of SCBs was unchanged at 9.83 per cent in May 2024. • 1-Year median Marginal Cost of fund-based Lending Rate (MCLR) of SCBs moved to 8.85 per cent in June 2024 from 8.79 per cent in May 2024.

Key Features IIP during January-March 2024: Net claims of non-residents on India declined by US$ 6.4 billion during Q4:2023-24 to US$ 361.7 billion as at end-March 2024.
