New Ferritic Stainless Steel Coins of Rs.5 with the theme "UNITY IN DIVERSITY"

The Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation new Ferritic Stainless Steel Coins of Rs.5 with the theme 'UNITY IN DIVERSITY'.
The coins shall conform to the following dimensions, designs and compositions, namely :

Shape and Outside
Diameter

Metal composition

Five Rupees

Circular : 23
Millimetres with security edges

Ferritic Stainless Steel Iron - 82%
Chromium - 18%


Designs :

Obverse : This face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left upper periphery with the word "भारत" in Hindi and on the right upper periphery flanked with the word `India' in English. It shall also bear the denominational value '5' in International Numerals flanked on the left lower periphery with the word "रुपए" in Hindi and right lower periphery with the word 'RUPEES' in English.

Reverse : This face of the coin contains the visuals showing stylised representation of 'Unity in Diversity' a defining characteristic of our country. The symbol shall be seen as four heads sharing a common body. It shall be thought of as people from all four parts of the country coming together under one banner and identifying with one nation. The visual code helps the user connect the visual with an individual denomination, which makes the process of identification quicker.

Security Edge for 5 Rupees

The edge of the coin shall be security edge on periphery. At the centre of the edge there is a shallow groove with a design inside the two sections separated by blank spaces. This design consists of a chain of beads in relief and each bead being followed by one inclined line in relief. There are a total 30 lines and 30 beads.

The coin is a legal tender as provided in the Coinage Act, 1906. The existing Five Rupees Coins in circulation shall also continue to be legal tender.
