RBI directs all bank branches to accept Rs. 500 notes
The Reserve Bank of India has today issued a circular to all commercial and cooperative banks clarifying that all Rs. 500 notes continue to be legal tender and should, therefore, be accepted for all transactions. The Reserve Bank has also asked banks to instruct all their branches to accept all Rs. 500 notes across their counters and eschew creating avoidable panic in the minds of the public. Issue of Rs. 10 notes in Mahatma Gandhi series with capital letter 'M' inset in numbering panels
The Reserve Bank of India had earlier issued three series of Rs. 10 denomination notes with Mahatama gandhi' portrait, one without any inset in numbering panel and the others with capital letter 'R' and 'L' in both the numbering panels.
