Banks can be penalised for stapling of Currency Note Packets : RBI
The Reserve Bank of India has reiterated that stapling of note packets had been totally banned and no bank or bank branch should issue or accept note packets in stapled condition. It has added that in case any bank or bank branch was found issuing or accepting note packets in stapled condition, it would be liable to be penalised under the existing provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. The Reserve Bank of India had last year issued a directive under Section 3

The Reserve Bank of India will shortly be issuing Rs.50 denomination bank note with capital letter `A' in numbering panel and Rs.500 note without inset letter in numbering panel in Mahatma Gandhi Series. Issue of Rs.100 notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series bearing the signature of Dr. Y. V. Reddy, Governor
The Reserve Bank of India will shortly be issuing Rs.100 notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series without inset letter in numbering panel bearing the signature of Dr. Y. V. Reddy, Governor. Except for the signature of the Governor, the design of the Rs.100 notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to those issued earlier in the 'Mahatma Gandhi' Series. All Rs.100 denomination notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series issued by the Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender.

RBI directs Banks to accept Coins
The Reserve Bank of India has today directed banks to immediately instruct their branches to accept coins of all denominations from any member of public without any restrictions and pay the value in notes. The Reserve Bank has also advised banks to use coin counting machines or accept coins by weight in order to be able to accept large quantities of coins tendered at the bank counters provided the coins are tendered after sorting out.
