RBI constitutes Expert Committee on Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
Considering the importance of the MSMEs in the Indian economy, it is essential to understand the structural bottlenecks and factors affecting the performance of the MSMEs. It has, therefore, been considered necessary that a comprehensive review is undertaken to identify causes and propose long term solutions, for the economic and financial sustainability of the MSME sector. Towards this end, it was announced in the Fifth Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy Statement for 2018-1

NSDL Payments Bank Limited has commenced operations as a payments bank with effect from October 29, 2018. The Reserve Bank has issued a licence to the bank under Section 22 (1) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 to carry on the business of payments bank in India. Reserve Bank of India imposes monetary penalty on ICICI Bank Limited

Jana Small Finance Bank Limited has commenced operations as a small finance bank with effect from March 28, 2018. The Reserve Bank has issued a licence to the bank under Section 22 (1) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 to carry on the business of small finance bank in India. With a view to providing greater convenience to tax payers, it has been decided that RBI Offices and all designated branches of agency banks conducting government banking will keep their counters open up to 8.00 p.m. on March 31, 2018, electronic transactions can be done till the midnight of that day.
