RBI imposes penalty on State Bank of India for violation of the terms of agreement with RBI
The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of ` 5,62,555/- (Rupees Five Lakhs Sixty Two Thousand Five Hundred Fifty Five only) on July 12, 2013 on State Bank of India for violation of the terms of agreement with RBI (for opening and maintaining currency chests) under para 3 (v) of circular DCM (CC) No.G-3/03.39.01/2012-13 dated July 02, 2012 and para 1 (e) of DCM (CC) No.G-2/03.35.01/2012-13 dated July 02, 2012. Receipt of applications for new bank licence in the private sector closes on July 1, 2013
The RBI issued a Press Release on June 24, 2013 stating that all offices of Reserve Bank of India situated in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai will remain closed for public transactions on July 1, 2013 to facilitate Annual Closing of RBI’s Accounts. It is clarified that the Reserve Bank of India would receive applications for new bank licence on July 1, 2013. Accordingly intending applicants for setting up new banks in the private sector can submit their applications upto 17.45

It is observed that the rush for remitting Income Tax dues through the Reserve Bank of India is quite heavy towards the end of June month. It becomes difficult for the Bank to cope with the pressure of receipts although additional counters to the maximum possible extent are provided for the purpose. RBI and 926 branches of Banks to accept Advance Income Tax
As many as 926 computerised branches of public and private sector banks will receive advance income tax in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. These arrangements have been made for the convenience of the income tax assesses. Of the 926 bank branches 862 branches are public sector bank branches, 35 HDFC bank branches, 10 ICICI bank branches and 19 AXIS bank branches.
