Issue of Rs. 100 notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series with capital letter 'L' inset December 8, 1998
The Reserve Bank of India will shortly be issuing Rs. 100 notes in Mahatma Gandhi series bearing the signature of Dr. Bimal Jalan, Governor, with capital letter 'L' inset in both numbering panels and incorporating words "Mahatma Gandhi" instead of "M. Exchange of Soil Notes - RBI's Special Drive
The Byculla Office of the Reserve Bank of India is launching a special drive from December 1, 1998 for exchange of soiled, cut and mutilated notes in the denomination of Re.1, Rs.2 and Rs.5. The admissible exchange value in accordance with RBI Note Refund Rules 1975 will be paid in the form of coins across the counter. RBI directs all bank branches to accept Rs. 500 notes
The Reserve Bank of India has today issued a circular to all commercial and cooperative banks clarifying that all Rs. 500 notes continue to be legal tender and should, therefore, be accepted for all transactions. The Reserve Bank has also asked banks to instruct all their branches to accept all Rs. 500 notes across their counters and eschew creating avoidable panic in the minds of the public. The Reserve Bank circular has been issued following some confusion about Rs.
