A meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC-SC) was held today at the Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai. Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Governor, Reserve Bank of India, chaired the meeting. The Sub-Committee discussed major global and domestic macroeconomic and financial sector developments and various issues that may have financial stability implications. The Sub-Committee reviewed the progress in several inter-regulatory matters including simplification of KYC processes and special drives for financial inclusion. It also deliberated upon the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion (NSFI) 2025–30. The Sub-Committee also reviewed the functioning of State-Level Coordination Committees (SLCCs) in States and Union Territories and activities of various technical groups.

The Government of Maharashtra has declared September 08, 2025, as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The public holiday on September 05, 2025, declared earlier has been cancelled. Accordingly, there will be no transactions and settlements in Government securities, foreign exchange, money markets and rupee interest rate derivatives on September 08, 2025. Today, the Reserve Bank published its annual publication “Handbook of Statistics on the Indian Economy, 2024–25 (HBS)”. The 27th edition in the series offers detailed time-series data on the Indian economy. It includes 244 statistical tables on macroeconomic and financial data such as national income, prices, money, banking, markets, public finances, foreign trade, balance of payments, and select socio-economic indicators. This edition has been released earlier than the scheduled date.
Data on sectoral deployment of bank credit for the month of July 2025 collected from 41 select scheduled commercial banks (SCBs), accounting for about 95 per cent of the total non-food credit by all SCBs, are set out in Statements I and II. On a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, non-food bank credit grew by 9.9 per cent as on the fortnight ended July 25, 2025, compared to 13.6 per cent during the corresponding fortnight of the previous year (i.e., July 26, 2024).
Today, the Reserve Bank released its web publication entitled ‘Quarterly Basic Statistical Return (BSR)-1 on Credit by Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) June 2025 on its ‘Database on Indian Economy’ portal (https://data.rbi.org.in Homepage > Publications). It captures various characteristics of bank credit such as occupation/activity and organisational sector of the borrower, type of account and interest rates based on account-level reporting. Data reported by SCBs {excluding Regional Rural Banks (RRBs)} are presented for bank groups, population groups and states. Highlights: • Bank credit growth (y-o-y) decelerated to 9.9 per cent in June 2025 from 15.0 per cent (net of merger ) in June 2024 (Chart - I).

The survey collects current perceptions and one year ahead expectations of households on general economic situation, employment scenario, overall price situation, own income and spending from the households residing in the rural and semi-urban areas across 31 states/ UTs viz., Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, NCT of Delhi, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Union Territory of Ladakh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. The results of this survey provide useful inputs for monetary policy.

The results of this survey provide useful inputs for monetary policy.
The Reserve Bank of India has been regularly conducting Inflation Expectations Survey of Households (IESH). The September 2025 round of the survey is being launched. The survey aims at capturing subjective assessments on price movements and inflation, based on their individual consumption baskets, across 19 cities, viz., Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Thiruvananthapuram. The survey seeks qualitative responses from households on price changes (general prices as well as prices of specific product groups) in the three months ahead as well as in the one year ahead period and quantitative responses on current, three months ahead and one year ahead inflation rates. The results of this survey provide useful inputs for monetary policy.
With a view to encourage writing originally in Hindi on the subjects of Economics/ Finance/Banking and general interest, Reserve Bank of India had invited entries for Inter-Bank Hindi Essay competition for the year 2025-26 vide press release dated 30 May 2025 in which Officers and Staff members (Other than Rajbhasha Officers and Translators) of Reserve Bank of India, Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) sponsored by them have participated. In May 2016, the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 was amended to provide a statutory basis for the implementation of the flexible inflation targeting (FIT) framework in India. As per Section 45ZA of the RBI Act, 1934, the Central Government shall, in consultation with the Reserve Bank, determine the inflation target in terms of the CPI, once in every five years. The Central Government initially notified the inflation target with the tolerance band on August 5, 2016, for the period 2016-2021. In the first review conducted in March 2021, this target was retained for the subsequent five years till March 2026. A second review of the target is now due by end-March 2026.
