It was mainly due to higher rise in Indian residents’ overseas financial assets (US$ 47.8 billion) as compared to the foreign-owned assets in India (US$ 31.4 billion) (Table 1).

The stock of external debt at end-June 2025 as well as revised data for earlier quarters are set out in Statements I (IMF format ) and II (old format). The major developments relating to India’s external debt as at end-June 2025 are presented below. Reserve Bank of India introduced the EDPMS to monitor the realisation of funds against exports in February, 2014. In due course, the flow of shipping bills from the Customs Authority has been automated through ICEGATE and from January, 2022, data from ECCS (Express Cargo Clearance System) also started flowing into EDPMS. Further, postal exports bill data also started flowing into EDPMS from January, 2025.
