Reserve Bank of India (Note Refund Rules) 2009
Reserve Bank of India has framed a new set of Note Refund Rules known as Reserve Bank of India (Note Refund Rules) 2009 and has been notified in the Gazette of India on August 04, 2009 and came into force with immediate effect .The new set of rules are simplified and easy to comprehend. Restrictive practices while accepting bank notes
It has come to the notice of the Reserve Bank of India that certain establishments are adopting restrictive practices such as not accepting notes of certain denominations or series etc. The Reserve Bank of India, therefore considers it necessary to emphasise that all government/semi-government offices, public/ private sector institutions and also any other organisation/establishment/ individual accepting cash should desist from such practices. High Level RBI Group suggests Steps to check Menace of Fake Notes
The sharp increase in the number of physical notes in circulation as also the increase in the number of cases of fake notes detected/seized in recent period, have clearly underscored the need for increased vigil by all stakeholders to address the menace of fake notes. RBI Clarification on Forged Notes
Some newspapers have been erroneously quoting Nayak Committee report for estimates of forged currency notes in circulation in India. The Reserve Bank clarifies that: There is no estimate of forged notes in circulation by any agency. Beware of Fictitious Offers/Lottery Winnings/Cheap Fund Offers: RBI
