Data on lending and deposit rates of scheduled commercial banks (SCBs) (excluding regional rural banks and small finance banks) received during the month of January 2026 are set out in Tables 1 to 7. Highlights: Lending Rates: • The weighted average lending rate (WALR) on fresh rupee loans of SCBs stood at 8.28 per cent in December 2025 (8.71 per cent in November 2025). • The WALR on outstanding rupee loans of SCBs declined to 9.06 per cent in December 2025 from 9.21 per cent in November 2025. • 1-Year median Marginal Cost of Funds based Lending Rate (MCLR) of SCBs moderated to 8.40 per cent in January 2026 from 8.45 per cent in December 2025.

Data on sectoral deployment of bank credit for the month of December 2025, collected from 41 select scheduled commercial banks (SCBs) which together account for about 95 per cent of the total non-food credit by all SCBs, are set out in Statements I and II. On a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, non-food bank credit grew by 14.4 per cent as on the fortnight ended December 31, 2025, compared to 11.1 per cent during the corresponding fortnight of the previous year (i.e., December 27, 2024). Today, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the Report ‘State Finances: A Study of Budgets of 2025-26’. The theme of this year’s Report is ‘Demographic Transition in India - Implications for State Finances’. It provides a comprehensive assessment of the finances of State governments for 2025-26 against the backdrop of actual and revised/provisional accounts for 2023-24 and 2024-25, respectively.

In terms of GOI notification F.No.4(22)-B(W&M)/2018 dated October 08, 2018 (SGB 2018-19 Series-V-Issue date January 22, 2019) on Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme, premature redemption of Gold Bond may be permitted after fifth year from the date of issue of such Gold Bond on the date on which interest is payable.
